Artificial Grass Materials and Types

Artificial grass is booming all across Europe, and not only because of its undeniable aesthetic appeal. Due to climate changes, it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain a healthy natural lawn. Artificial grass saves you these troubles while providing comfort and ease of use.

Types of Artificial Grass

Artificial grass comes in many shapes and forms. The first thing to consider when deciding which artificial grass to get is the material it’s made from:

  • Nylon

Nylon artificial grass is strong and offers very stiff blades. The upside to that is that it holds its original shape for a long time, even if it is intensively exploited.

  • Polypropylene

The least costly artificial grass is made from polypropylene. While it is considered to be the more “realistic-looking” choice, it is also the least durable, and won’t last a long time. However, due to the fact that it is lightweight and flexible, it’s a popular choice for creative indoor and outdoor projects.

  • Polyethylene

This type of artificial grass is easy to maintain while offering a great value-to-the-price ratio. It is soft to the touch, resilient and very durable (especially so when combined with nylon as a secondary thatch).

Other Factors to Consider

The material of your artificial grass is not the only thing to consider – other important factors include:

  • Pile Height

Artificial grass comes in different heights. However, let us say this right off the bat – don’t be fooled by the marketing. The highest pile of grass is not always the best one. We recommend aiming between 30 – 37mm of the pile height.

  • Artificial grass density

If you ask us, this is the most important aspect of artificial grass (right after the proper quality). Dense artificial grass is pleasant to the touch, has lush, vibrant colour and generally looks and feels great.
